It’s here! The Pie-IX bus rapid transit (BRT) project is operational, and ITESMEDIA had the opportunity to contribute to this structuring public transportation project through its ITEStransit passenger information system.

What’s the Pie-IX BRT project?

The Pie-IX BRT is a new bus rapid transit service on an 11-kilometer corridor serving the east of Laval and going through four boroughs of Montreal. Since November 7, the service is offered every day of the week. On all BRT shelters of the route, users can see displays equipped with the ITEStransit passenger information system.

Passenger information system

Upcoming buses in real time

On displays installed on every stop, users can see the upcoming bus times (in real or planned time), the direction of the bus route, and whether or not the vehicle has a front ramp for persons with reduced mobility.

Messages

Different types of information are shared on the displays. In this case, not only will users be able to check the times of upcoming buses, but they will also see messages that will make their travel easier.

Display priority

Many different content types can be linked together based on their priority level and their initial configuration. For example, in this project, if no buses are planned over extended periods, a default message will be displayed to inform passengers that no buses are expected soon, and will invite them to visit the STM’s website for more information. In addition, if an emergency message is triggered, it automatically appears on the displays over the normal content. Once the emergency message no longer needs to be displayed, the regular content will reappear.

The ITEStransit passenger information system improves the user experience by providing information in real time.
