SaaS vs On-Premises

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions have many benefits for companies compared to on-premises software. SaaS solutions decrease total costs of ownership and on-site maintenance needs while allowing a more efficient and flexible management of computer resources and significantly improving disaster recovery capacity by using secure cloud data centers.

Reduction of total cost of ownership

The most important benefit of SaaS solutions for businesses is their cost reduction advantage. These solutions often have a lower total cost of ownership compared to traditional software. Choosing a SaaS solution removes the need of investing in a costly infrastructure such as high-end servers and computers required for local software. Furthermore, there is no need to have internal support staff on hand to install updates for servers (software, databases, operating systems) and manage backups. SaaS products work remotely on the provider’s cloud infrastructure, and the provider also takes care of ensuring support to its infrastructure and to the end users.

Reduction in on-site maintenance needs

The evolution of software management practices reflects the digital transformation companies need to implement. In the past, purchasing a perpetual license was the norm, but this meant high initial costs and ongoing expenses for updates and support. With the SaaS model, companies can use a more flexible and scalable approach. This model reduces the workload of IT teams since updates are automatically managed and deployed by the provider, without causing any service interruptions. It also ensures cost predictability through fixed subscription fees as well as a constant access to technical support.

Improved disaster recovery

One of the main advantages of SaaS solutions is their ability to significantly facilitate data recovery if a catastrophic event occurs. Operating from secure cloud data centers, they provide better protection, security guarantees, audits, third-party certifications, data breach notifications and protection from cyberattacks. On the other hand, on-premises solutions scatter data on different servers, which compromises the implementation of an efficient backup plan and increases the risk of losing critical information.

In conclusion, SaaS solutions shine with their ability to reduce costs, facilitate maintenance and strengthen data safety. These advantages make these solutions very attractive compared to on-premises solutions, and offer companies greater flexibility and resilience inside a constantly evolving digital landscape.
